日本ではお正月に大きな地震があり、能登の人々が被災しました。
In Japan, there was a big earthquake on New Year's Day, and people in Noto were affected.

日本海側に津波が襲い、家屋が倒壊し、火事も起こりました。
Tsunami hit the Sea of Japan side,  houses collapesed, and  fires broke out.

多くの方が亡くなられ、今でも避難生活している方が多くいらっしゃいます。
Many people lost their lives and many are still living in evacuation shelters.

自分も含め、多くの日本人が元旦だけは平和であると信じ込んでいました。
Many Japanese people, including myself, believed  that only New Year's Day was peaceful.

地面があればいつだって、どこだって揺れる。
Whenever and wherever there is ground, it shakes.

海があればいつだって、どこだって津波が来る。
Whenever and wherever there is an ocean, there will be tsunamis.

それが日本。
This is Japan.

私も13年前に東日本大震災を経験しました。
I also experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake 13 years ago.

それ以来、防災の備えは完璧にしているつもりですが。。。
Since then, I have been taking perfect preparations for disasters prevention, but....
