小さな友達：A little friend

私には小さな女友達がいます。

I have a little girl friend.

彼女は小学6年生で、私の英会話サークルのメンバーでもあります。

She's in sixth gread and is also a menber of my English conversation club.

彼女はママと一緒に来て、普段は英語塾の教科書で勉強しています。

She comes with her mom, and  usualy studies using her English cram school textbook.

その教科書、すごくいいんです。

That textbook is really great.

ある日、私が「すごくいいね。私も買いたいな」と言ったら、

One day, when I said, "That's really nice. I'd like to buy one too,"

その時彼女は何も言わなかったけど、次の週に彼女の持っているのと同じ教科書をくれました。

She didn't say anything at the time, but the following week, she gave me the exact same textbook she had.

それは新品じゃありませんでした。彼女のいとこが使っていたものだったから。

It was not brand new. It was one used by her cousin.

でも、中古の教科書であることが、逆に私は嬉しかったです。

But I was actually happy that It was a used textbook.

お礼に、ムーミンのシールをあげました。

To thank her, I gave her some Moomin stickers.

その時も彼女は何も言わなかったけど、きっと心の中では嬉しいはず。

She didn't say anything then either, but I'm sure she was happy inside.

昨年までは無邪気だったけど、だんだんクールを装い始めているのです。

She used to be so innocent until last year, but she's gradually started acting cool.

たぶん、彼女は来年はサークルに来ないでしょう。

She probably won't come to the club next year.

中学校に入学するから。

After all, she'll be starting middle school.

だから今のうちに彼女と仲良くしとこう。

So I'd better stay close to her while I still can.
