学生服：School uniforms

梅雨が始まりました。

The rainy season has started.

私の地域では梅雨はとても寒いです。

In my area, the rainy season is very cold.

今日は寒いので、朝からストーブをつけました。

It's cold today, so I turned on a heater this morning.

思い起こせば、私の学生時代は地獄のようでした。

Come to think of it, my school days were like hell.

私たちは制服を着なくてはいけなかったのですが、季節に合っていないのです。

We had to wear school uniforms, but they weren't suited to the season.

特に6月。

Especially in June.

とても寒いのに、そんなこと関係なく夏制服に変えなくてはいけません。

Even though it was very cold, we had to switch to our summer school uniforms regardless.

気温は10度しかないのに、私たちは薄いセーラー服を着させられるのです！

Even when the temperature was only 10 degrees, we were forced to wear thin sailor uniforms!

そんな季節でもカーディガンやジャケットを着ることは許されませんでした。

We weren't allowed to wear cardigans or jackets even in that kind of cold.

あの時代は貼るホッカイロもユニクロもありませんでした。

Back then, there were no adhesive heat packs or Uniqlo.

なので、生徒は皆風邪をひいたのです。

So, all the students caught colds.

もちろん私も。

Of course, I did too.

あれは校則と言う名の虐待だと思います。

That was abuse disguised as school rules, I think.

一年中寒いんだから暖かい服を着させてよ。

It’s cold all year round, so just let us wear warm clothes.

もし中学校と高校に制服がなかったら、私は毎日ジーンズやスウェットを着たでしょう。

If there hadn't been uniforms in middle and highe school, I would have worm jeans and sweats every day.
