面白い質問①「パチンコ店」：Interesting Question No.1" Pachinko parlors"

先日、アメリカ人の友人から面白い質問をされました。

The other day, an American friend of mine asked me an interesting question.

「どうして日本のパチンコ店は遊園地みたいなの？」

She was like," Why do Japanese Pachinko parlors look like amusement parks?"

そういえば、この地域だけなのかもしれませんが、パチンコ店の外観には楽しそうな絵が描かれています。

By the way, it may be only in this area, but pachinko parlors have cheerful illustrations painted on their exteriors.

「よくわからないけれど、かつて、日本のパチンコ店には悪いイメージがたくさんありました。

I'm not sure, but in the past, Japanese pachinko parlors  had a lot of nagetive image.

実際に、駐車場の車の中で子供が亡くなることがしばしばありました。

In reality, there have been frequent cases of  chirdren dying inside cars parked in  parking lots.

彼らはパチンコをする親に置き去りにされて、熱中症になったのです。

They were left behind by their pachinko playing parents and suffered from heat stroke.

また、パチンコ店では子供の誘拐も起きました。

Also, there have been cases of child abdutcion at pachinko parlors.

親が子供と一緒に入店したものの、うるさくて子供が誘拐されたことに気づかなかったのです。

Parents entered the store with their chilrden but din't notice that heir children had been abducted because of the noise.

他にも、タバコの煙で臭いイメージがありました。

Another problem was the smelly image caused by cigarette smoke.

そのような悪いイメージを変えたいから遊園地のようにしたのではないでしょうか。

They wanted to change sutch a bad image, so they made it like an amuusement park.

そのほうが、お客がたくさん来て、売上もアップするのだと思います。」

I think that would increase the number of costomers and sales.”
