会社がとうとう、他の新聞社と業務提携をしたのです。
Our company have finaly formed a business alliance with another newspaper.

業務提携のおかげで、支社のない地域の情報を掲載することができるようになりました。
Thanks to the business partnership, we can now publish information in areas where we don't have branches.

これが何を意味するのか。
What does this mean?

合併です。
A merger.

私が住んでいる地域には新聞社が数社あります。
There are several newspaper companies in my area.

それは、今では全国的に珍しいことになってしまいました。
That has now became a nationwide rarity.

私はそのうちの、ある会社に吸収合併されると思っていました。
I have assumed that my company would be merged into one of those companies.

そしたら、私の思う会社ではない方と業務提携をしたのです。
Then they formed a business alliance with a company that was not the one I thought it was.

とても驚きました。そっちなの？
I was very suppried. That's the one?

吸収される側でなく、吸収する側になろうとしていたとは。
I had no idear that we were going to be the side of adsorption, not on the side of being adsorbed.

でも最終的に、それほど遠くない将来、この地域の全ての新聞社が一つにまとまると思っています。
But in the end, I believe that in the not-too-distant future, all the newspaper companies in the area will unite into one.

新聞業界は、今や斜陽産業なのです。
The newspaper industry is now a declining industry.
